Q. Sir,
I have customer asking for champagne color anodizing F2 finish according to german specification.
Please let me know how we can do. and which color we have to use as we are not been able to find champagne color in India.

A. Hello Vikram,
Technically that champagne colour is called LIGHT BRONZE colour and is obtained basically by electro-colouring process in a tin-sulphate bath after anodising. If you have the set up for electro-colouring then you can do this colour. Some plants do use dyeing technique; but you should take your client's consent about the colouring technique - because usually this is chosen as per the end-application criteria.
Best of luck.

Q. As suggested tin-sulphate bath by electro coloring process, could you please explain how we fulfill the requirement for electro coloring process?
Secondly if we do by dye than what color of dye we will use for Champagne color anodizing - F2 finish.

A. Vikram,
It's a technology by itself. You certainly need some help to start up. There are lot of companies who can assist you.
GOOD LUCK,

A. Hi Vikram,
If you don't know quite where to start, "The Surface Treatment and Finishing of Aluminum and Its Alloys" by Wernick, Pinner, and Sheasby
is, as always, the authority on aluminum finishing, and includes extensive info on electro coloring. For commercial help, electro coloring requires special AC rectifiers/power supplies, so contact any supplier of rectifiers and ask if they offer electro coloring rectifiers; if they do, they can tell you who they work with to set up electro coloring processes.

Luck & Regards,

Q. Dear Sir.
I am aluminium anodizer situated in western part of India. I give colour anodizing through process of electrocolour by passing AC current through stannous sulfate solution. But we all know it has its limitations and by this process one can get only limited colours. We get many requirements for colour which are not achieved by electro colour. For this purpose dye colors are been used. But customer wants it in 5-6 micron bracket (to lower the cost).
I want to know whether dye coloring is possible on 5-6 micron section.
RFQ: And where in India I can get dye colours for copper colour, lemon gold colour etc. I am not able to find a suitable supplier for dye colour. Please help me in this regard.

Ed. note: Sorry, this RFQ is old & outdated, so contact info is no longer available. However, if you feel that something technical should be said in reply, please post it; no public commercial suggestions please ( huh? why?)

A. Hi, Sumit. 6 microns is thick enough for many colors, including pastels, where high saturation isn't required -- but it's not half thick enough for black which requires deep saturation.
Organic dyes will offer a wide range of colors, but will not give the stability for architectural use that you are accustomed to. Combining the two dyeing processes can get you some additional colors while not being as prone to fading in the sunlight as organic dyes.

The site's supporting advertisers will contact you in private about your commercial issues like where to buy dyes. Sorry, we can't publicly suggest sources or suppliers ( huh? why?). Good luck.

Q. Dear Sir,
I am an aluminium anodizer from India and doing colour anodizing with the help of conventional electro colouring process in which we get colours like grey, champagne, bronze and black. This process has tin-based electrolyte.

I have heard that there is also a process in electro colour which can give many colours like green blue grey yellow orange etc., meaning any requested colour with the help of some special software-controlled transformer.

Can you tell us where I can find this technology ?
What is the operational cost of this technology ?
Is this technology really genuine and reliable?
How much is the cost for this technology?
And any other relevant info about it.

This site have always updated me and increased my knowledge every time I have visited it. Thanking you in anticipation. Looking for replies.

A. Look into cobalt based rather than tin for additional colors.
It is a bit more expensive because of the price of cobalt, but it is good and has somewhat different colors.
Major vendors carry both. I have no idea of who in your country.
