Air agitation for acid chloride zinc plating bath

Quickstart:
Most electroplating processes benefit from employing air agitation in the plating tank -- supplied through PVC pipes with holes in them at the bottom of the tank. But normal compressed "shop air" is a poor idea because of its high pressure and its oil content. Low pressure blowers, such as 'regenerative' style are usually the best choice.

Q. Hi!

I am trying to electroplate some cylinders but I need air agitation what can I use? I am currently using an acidic zinc chloride bath.

A. Commercial high volume low pressure blowers are available from plating equipment distributors, and the dispersion piping is easily made by drilling PVC pipe. Thread 40886, "Agitation air sizing and calculations for plating & anodizing" may be useful.

But I suspect you may be thinking of something quite small. How big are these cylinders and how big is the plating tank?

A. If you are using a small tank to electroplate, you may use equipment for fish tanks (small air pumps, valves and plastic piping).
