A. Hi Ron; hi Michael. The site's supporting advertisers will contact you privately. But you may also wish to look for a plating shop in our Directory of Shops. You might also wish to take a look in Hemmings Motor News. Good luck.

RFQ: I'm looking for a shop in the New York, Mass, CT area within few hours of Albany, NY for some show quality chrome plating for some motorcycle parts.. I got a sports bike swingarm, gas tank, and wheels that I all need dipped and if plastics can be done by anyone local I need my rear solo seat cowl and front fender done.. I'm looking for a place with a good turn around time as well.. If I get stuff back in good quality and fast turn around I can refer and send a lot of business to you, currently we ship everything to Cali, NC, or Canada.. Hope to hear from someone soon..

Thanks,

A. Hi, Che. The term "dip" can be a little misleading, as parts are never dipped into molten chrome in the fashion of chocolate dipped strawberries. Rather they undergo an electroplating process that involves over a dozen different sequential processes. Still, the trick isn't getting the chrome plated onto the plastic (almost anything can be electroplated), the trick is getting it to adhere strongly enough to be suitable for such a rugged application. Only certain grades of plastic (most commonly ABS) can be plated to that acceptable degree of adhesion, and your fenders and other parts probably aren't ABS. Specialists can offer various other processes, like "chrome-look paint" which may meet your needs though. Good luck.
