Stainless Steel Weld Cleaner

Q. We are trying to develop a range of environmentally friendly cleaning materials, the stainless steel weld cleaner is proving a problem please advise if you have any formulations that might be worth trying.

A. There are some better processes for weld cleaning that are relatively friendly, but you have to remember that in ANY weld cleaning operation (removing all of the discoloration) you are removing nickel and chromium. These are environmentally hazardous materials per EPA guidelines and must be treated as such. There are some good citric based systems that provide good cleaning with the aid of electricity that are safe to handle, but still will give you environmentally hazardous waste.
