thumbs up signHi folks. I think neither of these are valid coating names, but are misspellings. Some possibilities of what you might be thinking of are offered below, but if you can put your question into context (where you heard it, in reference to what kind of parts or what industry, what properties you are seeking from the coating, etc.) you will surely get better responses than from a game of charades :-)

A. There is a product known as, "Dulltone," which meets GM 6111 specification. To the best of my knowledge it is a basecoat for a dip and spin application designed for small parts. Typical parts done with this would be bolts, nuts, springs, clamps, etc. It can be applied by itself, or with a topcoat of anodic or cathodic lacquer coating. It is purported to be able to eliminate zinc or zinc alloy plating while giving equivalent corrosion protection. Pretreatment for this Dulltone would be either shotblasting or zinc phosphate type coating. Hope this helps, we have been looking at one system like this to manufacture, and market. If I can be of any help let me know.

A. Maybe I can shed some light on this issue. I am not familiar with Dalton but Deltatone is the European trade name for Magni's zinc rich coating. The proper terminology in Europe is Deltatone and Dorrltone in North America.

Ed. note: As previously noted, our understanding is that Delta-Tone® is claimed as a trade name of Doerken. But our role here is merely to try to help readers find what they seek; this public forum is clearly not an international court which can decide which entities own which trademarks in which countries :-)

Q. I have a customer asking about a finish called DELTA-TONE. I have some very basic information. Other names that I have seen are DELTA-FLEX, and DELTASEAL.

Q. DELTATONE, INFORMATION REQUIRED

WE ARE A SPANISH FINISHING COMPANY
WE ARE LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ABOUT "DELTATONE"

Q. Require complete information regarding Delta tone finish on Fasteners:

No. of types.
Coating requirements.
Coating thickness
Different types of color as per types.
At what temperature it is possible.
What is the exact process to do?
Etc.

A. Hi gentlemen. Without doubt, Delta Tone is a zinc-rich dip-spin coating system. You can get detailed information on zinc-rich dip-spin coatings from any of the many suppliers of such including Doerken, Magni, Metal Coatings International, Sermagard, Zintek, and others. But if it must specifically be "DELTATONE" in Joseba's case in Spain and "Delta tone" in Adish's case in India then you must determine for yourself who you accept as owning that trademark in that area. Good luck.

Q. Dear Sirs,
I just want to know what is "Delta Tone, t610 acc. to VW 137 50, TL245" and what is the difference between it and the clear zinc plating only? Please help me!

Hello!
Delta Tone Finishing is same As Hot Dip Galvanizing? I just want to know if the Delta Tone finishing is same as hot dip galvanizing. If it is not, please indicate what is Delta Tone finishing and its spec.

Thanks

A. Hi, Nick. Delta Tone is doubtless a zinc-rich dip-spin coating.

- It would be a heavier coating, and more corrosion resistant, than clear zinc plating. As well, it might possibly offer less potential for hydrogen embrittlement if that is an issue in the particular case.
- It would be a lighter, and less corrosion resistant finish than hot dip galvanizing (see letter 24405, "Hot-dip Galvanizing vs. Zinc-rich Dip-spin Coatings")

If a customer orders a Coke, you may or may not be able to get away with serving him a Pepsi; but you absolutely can't serve him a nice red wine :-)

So you may be able to get your customer to accept a zinc-rich dip-spin coating from another supplier (see above discussion) if you do not wish to obtain a license from the trademark holder; but you certainly can't give him zinc plating or hot dip galvanizing. Good luck.
