Q. I am a marketing associate for a Powder Coating manufacturer in India. I have heard about a process developed by DECORAL SYSTEMS, Italy. Can anybody explain me in brief about the same.

Thank you,

Ed. note: Sorry, Prashant, but please google for such stuff. Finishing.com is for camaraderie and technical info exchange, not commercial suggestions (which aren't appropriate for an anonymous site where they lead to spam, phony testimonials, and rancor). Further, the forum is made possible by supporting advertisers who are happy to pay the costs of supporting such camaraderie and technical info -- but we cannot possibly ask them to pay the costs of maintaining contact info for their competitors who don't support the site. :-)

Q. I am interested in knowing about the system of Decoral painting of Aluminium profiles (powder coated). If anyone will be kind enough to enlighten me in this regard.

A. WOOD FINISH on powder coated alum is done by two methods: roller type design on top of prepowdered alum profiles = old method. New: film with designs covers the aluminum powder coated profile and will be vacuumed of air, and put in the oven for 230 cils. for short time depending on the profile size and thickness. Due to heat, the design on the film (wood finish, marble, any design) will be printed on the base powder coating. Any color will be fit.

A. The process is similar to photos, only onto powder coating with a plastic film or paper. The film is then welded into a bag and vacuum sealed on trolleys, then cooked for various times depending on the weight of the piece of Aluminum.

Alternate cheaper substitute to Decoral Wood Finish Treatment on Metals?

Q. Sir,

I would like to know if there is an Alternate Process or Technology / Technique available for getting the Wood Finish effect on Metals and Plastics and which is not as expensive.

Thanks

A. Hi Sahil. Anther technical approaches to obtain wood grain finishes is "one-bake" powders. There is also "water transfer printing", which can be applied to electrophoretic lacquers as well as to powder coatings. Good luck!

Q. Sir,

Thanks for your valuable information.
I've tried the links suggested by you, but I couldn't find more information on ELECTROPHORETIC LACQUERS system, as in its application to get a Wood Grain effect on metals, etc.

Also I would appreciate if you could let me know some more information for Wood Grain effect with WATER TRANSFER Technology as well as ELECTROPHORETIC LACQUERS system .

Maybe some Names and links of companies which have a successfully proven technology for Wood Grain Transfer other than Decoral.

Looking forward to your support .

Thanks and Regards

Sahil

A. Hello again, Sahil. This site is for camaraderie in the finishing industry and exchange of technical tips and information. We cannot suggest vendors. I know that the google search term "water transfer printing" works well for both technical info and suppliers, so I can't understand why you are not finding potential vendors. Good luck.

Dear Sahil:

We are not more than 20 minutes away.

Do call on us and we will show you both heat transfer as well as water transfer technologies for obtaining wood finish on metals and plastics.

A. If you want woodgrain colour, printing is the way to go. If wood grain texture is what you want, embossed plastisol should do the trick.

Q. 1. I am doing wood finish on aluminum profiles, but when I do the ink gets spread up and the transferred film looks shabby. My oven temperature is 200 °C for 20 minutes. Please guide.

2. I'm doing powder coating on various jobs. I want to go for wooden effect on aluminium profiles. I have came to know that powder to be used is PU or PP. Can I use epoxy polyester instead of Pure polyester (PP)? What problems would I face if I use EP powder

A. Dear Amit,

I think your temperature may be too high and the time is too long. Can it be tried under 160-180 Celsius for less than 10 minutes?

Of course, the temperature and time can be increased along with the quantity and thickness of Aluminium profiles.
