Stainless steel in marine environment
We have a requirement for a stainless steel which is able to withstand bearing pressures of around 3-5 ksi, in a marine (hence corrosive) environment. The stainless steel also requires ot be wear resistant, with a service life of 20 years.
Any ideas welcome.

John,
Please have a look both at # 7117 and # 8544 re stainless problems.
Consider getting advice from Accura Holdings, UK and also from Special Metal Wiggin in Hereford, (home of the S.A.S)... although the latter never responded to my query about a proven definite loss or partial loss of (one of the) alloys in ultra high grade nickel:chrome material during the welding process, which is, I like to think, why people have had stainless steel weld failure problems in some environments.
Technically, Monel should be ideal, ... but I just don't know if it is easily available in piping. Food for thought, anyhow.
Cheers!
