Nickel-plating tear-off on zamak diecasted parts

2001

We have recently launched a new product based on a zamak diecasted frame. The finish needs to be nickel plated. The first pieces came out with nickel plating tearing off (60% failure rate).

We redesigned the die in order to achieve better material flow and eliminate porous surface, but the problem remains.

Could anybody help?

Have you tried putting down a layer of other plating before nickel to seal the surface?
