Definition of "immersion deposition"?

I am reading through a technical journal which states that if copper sulphate this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] is used to plate copper on zinc, an "immersion deposition of copper" would occur which is a semi-adherent bond. The article continues by stating that this would not occur if using copper cyanide. Could someone please define the terms "immersion deposition" and "displacement deposit" please?

Thank you,
