Pre Cleaning Before Plating for Removing Molykote from the Surface

2001

We are producing parts by means of cold extrusion for which we apply molykote on the surface.

This layer of molycote is being cleaned with HCl before plating for about 3 to 5 minutes.

Subsequently the parts are done for a process of hydrogen embrittlement. When the parts are subjected to load test it was found to be failed. Hence in order to minimise the time of dipping in HCl the parts are vibrofinished and plated and found to be acceptable. However we wish to know whether another process can be adopted for removing molykote from the surface.

If so what chemical should we use and also let us know how to do the process?
