Advantages of Nickel Plating Over Chrome Plating for Tyre Moulding Centre Mechanisms

I have been given an assignment to find out what the advantages of nickel plating are over chrome plating (if any) to plate centre mechanism cylinders for tyre moulding presses.

Can anyone suggest any, all the books I have read are sketchy on the issue.

Hello,

Nickel (if electrolytically plated) will be softer but more resistant to corrosion than chrome. If plated by electro-less technique it will be even more resistant to corrosion and harder than the conventional nickel. Besides, it will cover the geometry more uniformly than any of the other two processes. One more thing in favor of both nickels, they are less toxic to work with than Chrome.

Good luck
