Venting and Sealing of Products to be Hot Dip Galvanized
2001
We are a job Hot Dip Galvanizing plant and some of the products that we process are tubular in design and are galvanized on the outside surface only. In order to do this the units must be "vented" to the atmosphere to avoid explosions as the product is immersed into the molten metal. Current methods for "venting" include threading a vent onto the product, bolting a mating flange w/ceramic gaskets to the product.
We are looking for a product that can be inserted into the openings and will prevent zinc from entering the tube during the dipping process. Prior to galvanizing the product is passed through a series of liquid cleaning baths. The product we are in search of would be able to withstand liquid baths as well as immersion into the galvanizing kettle. The liquid baths range from ambient up to 155' F, and the kettle is approximately 850' F.
We would appreciate any thoughts that anyone has.
