Etching Stainless Steel Mesh

I am looking for a suitable stainless steel etching/brightening solution to allow etching of a fine stainless steel mesh thereby reducing the wire diameter on the mesh. I have a paper from the Review of Scientific Instruments (November 93, page 3094) which mentions a solution "DS9", but I have been unable to contact the author or track down DS9.

Can anyone recommend a product, or a recipe. (I have access to fume cabinets etc for safe handling).

DS9 Henkel Technologies Deoxidine 314 pre mixed solution.

Good luck
