What is the best method of etching 302-304 stainless steel for the purpose of promoting adhesion of flexible polyurethane rubber?

Solvent clean the area, then abrasive blast to a depth of 20%-25% of the thickness of the material to be applied. This should give the surface area and "tooth" required for proper adhesion

If blasting is desired, one should use virgin blasting media as not to contaiminate the stainless steel surface and make it prone to corrosion.
