Wipe on silver replating -- The Silver Solution
Q. Several years ago I was able to purchase a product called "The Silver Solution" from one of our upscale department stores. It was a wipe/rub on type of silver replating. The item came in a kit that also included a special silver cleaner. It did a wonderful job of maintaining and covering small worn spots on vintage/antique silver plate items. I am no longer able to find this product and am hoping there is another product similar to this available. My question is whether or not you know of any product currently available and where it may be purchased? I think this would be useful information to anyone with silver plated items that need to be touched up. Thank you!

A. Hi Wendy, readers: there are many brands of rather similar products.
But re-silvering is such a popular subject that we ended up with well over a dozen threads on just this one topic as readers started new threads with: "Has anyone heard of 'XYZ' re-silvering solution?". And with brands coming & going over the years, off the market & back on, bought out & renamed, or just out of business, it was becoming a tough game of whack-a-mole to keep threads from being littered with outdated info and broken links. Even worse, bad actors buy up expired URLs to get links to their malware from legitimate sites like ours. So we're trying to move all references to specific brands to a single FAQ on the subject so we have a fighting chance of keeping it up to date
Yes, lots of people report success with wipe-on re-silvering solutions :-)
Luck & Regards,

Q. Found the link to The Silver Solution. Do not have any personal experience with the product myself as of yet.

A. I use Miracle Silver Plus; it is the best product out on the market; they bought NuSilver. If you need to see a great product try that; it is awesome.

Ed. note: Glad you like it, Jeff; but gushing praise often starts a race to the bottom. Maybe we should just leave it that you think it's a good product :-)
A. You might also try Medallion Liquid Silver. As a retired antique dealer I have used this item many times and love it. That's why I sell it.

Q. I've just read the FAQ of "Silver Plating at Home" and the link to some of the posts. Jax silver plating solution [affil links] seems to cost about double the price of other brands. Is it really better?

A. Hi, Dwight.
I don't think a testing organization like Consumer Reports has tested these products, but it might be worth checking. Considering the essentially anonymous nature of no-registration public forums, internet testimonials usually aren't worth much. We've had several cases where the IP address of a 'very satisfied customer' matched the IP address of the vendor's website :-)
