You question does not mention anything specific about heat treatment of steel. There are many process of heat treament and some of them are :
- Carburizing
- Nitriding
- Nitrocarburizing
- Carbonitriding
- Oxinite process
- flame hardening
- Austenizing - Annealing--Spherodizing--normalizing etc.etc.
Details about these process may be found in some metallurgical text books.
I hope the information helps you
Thanks
