Aluminum Valve Body Wear -- Info/help needed

An automatic transmission main control valve body (cast aluminum SAE 308) showed valve bore wear. Valve: anodized aluminum SAE 6020-T8 (pressure regulating, full flow) spool valve

It was suggested that wear could be reduced by plating valve instead or in addition to anodizing. Valve body changes are not considered practical.

Would really appreciate any guidance in this direction. Prototypes may be required. Commercially available processes only please

One of the options you have includes an equal thickness of hard chrome to replace anodizing or deposit a thin layer (<3 micron) of one of TiN/TiC family of compounds, or a thin diamond-like-carbon (DLC) coating. There are several shops that provide these services. All these are in use in the automotive industry for wear reduction.

Plating may help but before any suggestions, further information is required. Lubricants may help. Is the wear erosive or fretting (sliding) wear. A tribologist will tell you that one surface should be harder than the other otherwise galling and/or seizing may occur. Some specialized plating may help.
