Determining if WWT sludge is hazardous or not?
Q. How do we determine if the sludge from our WWT facility is hazardous or not?

A. Hi Gary,
A former governor of NJ once answered this, at least partially, with this very simple statement: "Toxic is matter of statute, not opinion".
The first question to be answered then, before we even talk about what is in the sludge, is "where is it from?" because some sludges are regulated that way. In the plating industry, for example, you may be generating F006 WWT sludges and, if so, you can look up F006 and see if that is what you are generating, and what you are supposed to do with it.
Luck & Regards,
