Diamond plating on Aluminium

Q. Hi,

I wish to do fine diamond plating on aluminum textile parts. Little bit of roughness it will break thread. So smooth is essential.

Any proprietary chemical available or can we do on our own?

A. Hi Hardik,
A number of shops have done it themselves without getting proprietary licenses, but there is a lot to it and I think you would save a good deal of money and months or years of development by either licensing it or retaining a consultant who nows how to do it and can help you get set up. My limited understanding is that special surfactants and/or establishment of a fluidized bed arrangement (like quicksand) are the keys to keeping the diamond particles in suspension, and occluded into the nickel deposit.

If you cannot tolerate roughness you will need to make sure that you obtain rounded diamonds because the principle is that the diamonds will not wear away as fast as the nickel, so covering up rough, sharp, diamonds with nickel will not protect your thread for long. Luck & Regards,
