Nickel thickness measurement: which electrolyte?

Q. Hello, I am measuring nickel plating on brass using HQT-IA colorimetric thickness tester. My question is what type of electrolyte should I use? Table provided with the tester states that 80g NH4NO3 and 40g NaSCN should be dissolved in 1 L solution. Do I dissolve both NH4NO3 and NaSCN in 1 L of distilled water? Or do I only choose 1 of the specified reagents for the measurement? Thank you in advance.

? Hi. This is interesting to me because I've never heard of colorimetric thickness testing.
