Can hard chrome plating survive 7-stage phosphatizing?
Q. Dear all,
We have a steel tube weldment (e-bike frame) which includes a hard chrome plated hollow pin (hollow turned rod). It has a plunger sliding in it, which is also hard chrome plated.
We manage to weld the chrome plated part to the steel frame. The frame is further powder coated.
My question is: Whether this hard chrome plated hollow pin will sustain 7 tank phosphating process or not?

A. Hi Ashish. I highly doubt that exposed hard chrome can properly survive 7-stage phosphatizing. I think it needs to be flawlessly masked.
