Will TCE at 187 °F Hurt Silver?
Q. I degrease small silver parts in Trichloroethylene at 187 °F. I was wondering if there are any negative effects on the silver plating or the electrolytic phos nickel underplate.

A. Hi James. TCE is safe for most metals, although you should probably be investigating a more forward looking cleaner for environmental reasons. And 187 °F is not very hot at all. In the unlikely case that the plating blisters at that temperature, I'd say the plating was not right :-)
