Heat Treat Al Casting for 300 hrs Salt Spray Life

Q. I am currently working on Aluminum casting(material LM6) part which needs min. 300-hour salt spray life, so kindly suggest the Heat treatment for the same.

Awaiting for quick responses.

A. Hi Prajwal. There are some "quasi heat treat" procedures for steel, like Nitriding, which can improve the corrosion resistance, but I am not personally aware of using heat treatment to improve the corrosion resistance of aluminum. Must the casting remain bare rather than being anodized, plated or powder coated?
