Brown mold (growth) in acid copper plating tank

Q. Have a 4 gallon acid copper plating tank (just an basic acid/copper solution no additives) that has been unused for 3 months. I have noticed that there is a light brown/yellow mold? type growth on top of the solution. What is it and how do I get rid of it? Would an activated carbon filter help? Also how do I prevent it from recurring?
Thanks ahead of time for all your assistance!
