Looking for field applied coating to reduce dust accumulation

Q. I'm looking for a coating that will reduce the amount of dust accumulation on HVAC return air grilles. The grilles are painted steel, and they are already installed. The application is a large commercial airport terminal building.

This airport was recently renovated and expanded. The new HVAC systems include white, linear/louvered return air grilles mounted high on the walls in the terminal and concourse areas. These grilles quickly collect dust, and they have become a cleaning nuisance. They can only be cleaned at night when the airport is unoccupied, and the effort requires the use of a lift since the grilles are sixteen feet from the floor level. I was hoping to find a spray on coating that can be applied directly to the grilles in the field, and that this coating would minimize the housekeeping effort.

Any help would be appreciated.

A. Don't think that a coating will solve your problem. The only thing that comes to mind is to recess the intake louvers into the wall 5 or 6 inches and paint them black. They will still need cleaning periodically but they won't need addressing as often.
