Motorcycle forks rust after grinding, and their I.D. rusts after chrome plating

July 19, 2015

Q. Dear all,
We are front forks making company. During rainy days fork pipe outer dia. getting rusty after grinding, and inner dia. also getting rusty after nickel-chrome plating. So please share your valuable experience with me.
Thanks & regards,

A. Hi Dinesh. Obviously, such problems will require a major effort to correct, not a tiny tweak, so you would need to commit significant effort to telling us exactly what is going on before anyone can offer detailed help. But ...

- Flash rusting after grinding may not be a significant issue if the parts will be plated immediately.
- I have seen rusting of the I.D. of chrome plated tubing significantly deterred by in-line phosphatizing after the chrome plating. Good luck.
