Stripping Anodized Aluminum Coating from Copper Tubing

April 28, 2015

Q. How would I remove a thick coating of anodized aluminium from copper tubing? I think it is aluminum (dull silvery colour)

A. Hi Rob. Sight unseen I'll bet 20 to 1 that it's not a coating of anodized aluminum because it is very difficult to plate aluminum onto anything. Please explain what this tubing is, where the item came from, and why you want to get it down to bare copper and maybe someone can help. I'd bet on it being zinc or silver, but wild guesses don't really help :-)
