Tank size for acid copper barrel plating
September 1, 2014
Q. Q. Wondering what size tank would be recommended for acid copper plating in a 10x24 inch plating barrel?
Ryan Wooton- Medfor Oregon USA
A. Hi Ryan. The supplier of the plating barrels will have a standard size of tank they recommend because the barrel will have a certain proprietary style of idler gear, hanger arm, and "horns" (the round brass rods that sit down in the tank saddles) and the tanks must match it. Generally a 24" barrel will use a tank of approximately 44" wide, but it could as easily be 42". In the other direction (the 10" direction of the barrel), heated plating tanks will probably be about 30" and rinse tanks about 24", and the depth of the tanks might be about 30" (24" would probably be enough if need be).
If you explain your plan in a little more detail we might either have greater confidence that it's all going to work out, or have some warnings about pitfalls. Best of luck.
