Masking for Zinc cyanide plating bath
March 21, 2014
Q. Hello,
1. We are doing zinc plating using high and medium cyanide baths.
2. We have not been able to find a suitable masking medium that works under these harsh conditions.
3. I would be forever grateful if someone would be able to help me out.
Sincerely
- Anand, India
A. I have used Tolber M59012 masking extensively in KCN silver solutions with very good results. The operating temperature in the silver bath never goes north of 85 degrees and I have found the success rate is drastically reduced when using in solutions with a temperature greater then 120 °F. I believe if the masking is oven cured and reapplied with a second or third coat it could withstand greater temperatures.
