"Decanning" of steel coils
February 24, 2014
Q. What is meant by decanning of steel coils?
monica daichwork - portage indiana
A. Hi, Monica, I only see the word used in a couple of casual and obvious contexts:
1. Removing the metal "can" around a catalytic converter ceramic core as the first step in trying to recover its precious metals value.
2. Taking nuclear waste out of a protective enclosure or "can".
So in what context did you hear it or read it, and how do you know you are spelling the word you are looking for correctly? Is it possible that you overheard a worker who is the only person in the world trying to popularize this phrase? :-)
