How to find Iron & Oil content in various steps of Zinc Phosphate Line

February 23, 2014

Q. Please explain how to find Iron and Oil content in Acidic Degreasing, Derusting and Phosphating Tank of Zinc Phosphating Process.

ASHOK SURVE
- Maharashtra, Mumbai, India

Hi Ashok. May I assume that your acidic degreasing step is not working properly, so you think you may be getting oil into your pickling tank and your phosphating tank? Or is an overhead hoist dripping oil and rust into the tanks? I believe that any oil in the derusting tank and zinc phosphate tank would be readily visible as a skim on the surface of the tank.

I am sure we will make progress much faster if you can explain the situation that is confronting you, rather than struggling to pose it as an abstract question that people have rarely if ever faced or thought about, and that would involve at least 6 different chemical analysis techniques (oil and iron analysis in three different types of tanks, each with their own typical interferences to be worked around).

What is actually going on? Thanks.
