Corrosion resistant painting on galvanized steelsheets
August 22, 2013
Q. IS IT NECESSARY TO APPLY BOTH PRIMER AND THEN THE TOP COAT FOR THE GALVANIZED STEEL OR IS IT ENOUGH IF ONLY TOP COAT ONLY IS APPLIED FOR CORROSION RESISTANCE.
SECONDLY, BY MISTAKE WE APPLIED ONLY COMPONENT A FOR THE GALVANIZED STEEL WITHOUT MIXING COMPONENT B FOR THE TWO-PACK PAINTS. NOW THE PAINT IS NOT DRYING AND WE TOUCH THE PAINTED SURFACE IT IS STICKY EVEN AFTER 15 DAYS. PLEASE SUGGEST THE RECTIFICATION.

A. Hi Abdul,
I would strongly recommend that you use a primer before top coating, it helps with the adhesion of the top coat paint.
The parts that have been coated in only component A will need the paint stripped and the process restarted. As it is currently the coating will not cure, it will eventually dry out, crack up and flake away, but with no cross-linking happening it will not cure.
