Passivating and testing 716 stainless steel
October 25, 2012
Q. We are currently passivating 716 stainless steel parts in a citric acid solution and then testing for successful passivation using humidity testing. Is there another available testing method that is faster and acceptable (little to no chance of false negatives) for 716? I have been considering copper sulphate ⇦ this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] testing but for such a high carbon metal such as 716, it is likely we will experience false negatives.
