White Bronze vs. Zinc Plating for Toys

Q. Since Nickel is to be listed as CMR substance in the EU toy safety directive 2009/48/EC and will thus be restricted, we are looking for alternative solution(s).

While most of our supplier indicate that Zinc plating is a viable option, our previous experiences with RoHS tells us that the chromate conversion coating would cause Cr(III)/Cr(VI) problem - the migration of both species are restricted in the TSD.

Could anyone please advice if white bronze plating is a good substitute for nickel-plating for parts such as screws, springs, decorative components or shafts?
