Best coating for for 7-8 years life on mild steel Solar Thermal Disks
Q. Hi
Please give me a suggestion for a good coating for mild steel structure ... I want to to avoid hot-dip galvanizing.
Is there any method through which we can achieve a life span of coating 6-7 years or more...
I've heard about Zn rich coating but not sure about its life. Can we use simple ZnO primer and then top coat?
Please suggest me what is better method to achieve a good life to avoid rust.
Thanks amp;& regards

A. Hi Raj. I assume it's just the support structures that you wish to coat, not the discs.
When you say that you want to avoid galvanizing, but don't say why, it's hard for people to guess why, and consequently to figure out what else you may wish to avoid. I will guess that you just want to coat the structures inexpensively.
If there are no recessed areas, weld lines, capillary joints, or other coverage issues, yes, you should be able to properly pretreat the structure and then simply paint it with zinc-rich paint. If there are areas that the zinc-rich paint won't be able to get to, electrocoat priming would be advisable. Good luck.
