Does nickel acetate seal leave nickel on anodized parts?

Q. Does nickel acetate leave nickel deposits on the piece? We are appying hard anodize with a nickel acetate to a part, and there are some concerns that there is nickel in the part and some people are allergic to nickel and it would effect them. should we be concerned with this?

Thanks - Jim

A. If you are sealing in a nickel acetate seal, then you are depositing nickel acetate in the pores and depending on the rinsing possibly leaving nickel acetate on the surface. Yes, nickel acetate does cause "nickel itch". Properly sealed anodizing should be no problem. Drinking tumblers have been manufactured for 50 years with dyed anodizing sealed in nickel acetate.
