Zinc plating spec ASTM B 633

July 12, 2012

Q. ASTM Specification B 633 lists four classes of zinc-plating: according to this standard, total 4 classes are given below -- but in this the number indicates the coating thickness in microns (µ). Since that, my question is why only 5µm for class I? Why not 6 or 7 µm? My question is same to the all below classes?
Kindly help me out.

Fe/Zn 5-class ?
Fe/Zn 8, class ?
Fe/Zn 12 class ?
Fe/Zn 25.class ?

If you look at the specification (obtain a copy if you have not done so already) you will see that the thicknesses provided in Table 1 are the minimum for the respective class.
