Plating of steel circlip for use on silver plated copper conductor
Q. I have an application where a silver plated copper conductor is retained by a circlip. Stainless steel and beryllium copper circlips do not deliver the mechanical performance we require leaving carbon steel. The application calls for a high level of corrosion resistance.Zinc coatings we have tried do not react well to the proximitty of the silver plate but we get good corrosion performance from samples of electroless phosphor nickel. I am however concerned about the brittle nature of this plating on a spring. If any one has experience of along these lines I'd be very grateful.

A. Hi Ian.
My first thought would be to eliminate the galvanic issues by nickel striking the steel, then heavy silver plating it. How does that sound?
