Mil-DTL-5541 Chem Film in yellow trivalent

Q. I want to use MIL-DTL-5541 [on DLA] class 3, color: gold. Is it possible to get the gold color calling out type I (no hexavalent)?

A. Hi Jeff.

To my knowledge the only Mil-DTL-5541 approved trivalent coating is the Navair-developed TCP system, which is essentially colorless and cannot be dyed, or otherwise made to look like it's toxic hexavalent chromium. The situation may have changed, but not that I know of.

A. Henkel has Alodine T 5900 and 871 products which they claim to conform to DTL-5541. No idea about color, though.
