Predicting coating life on the basis of corrosion rate of electroplated bolts

Q. Hi,
I just want to know the procedure/method/formula to predict the coating life of electrodeposited Bolts with respect to corrosion rate.

Your help is highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Santosh

A. Oh, okay, if that's all you want to know . . .  :-)

Seriously, Santosh, that is perhaps the most difficult question in the whole world of surface finishing :-(

The fact is, all accelerated corrosion tests employ unrealistic conditions that are of limited value in predicting real-world life. If you can tell us where the bolts will be applied, what type of plating you are thinking of applying, and what the environmental conditions will be like, we can start a discussion that you and we may be able to learn from. Thanks!
