February 29, 2012

Q. Dear Sir

I am a worker of zinc die-cast buckles and trims manufacturing company.
Kindly tell me how can I get artistic platings over these buckles and trims.
Thanks

A. Hi, Babar.

There are few plating or coating processes that cannot be applied to zinc die-castings -- so possibilities include brass, copper, nickel, chrome, bronze, gold or silver plating, clearcoats, e-coating, enameling, powder coating, etc.

I think you need to give us some indication of what look you have in mind before we can even tell you what book to look in. Thanks.

Q. Hi,

I made a ring (jewelry) from casting pure zinc metal. I polished it to a brilliant shine and I like the way it looks. Upon reading about zinc and its properties, I'm still confused about its safety and durability as jewelry.
I was wondering if zinc is a good and safe metal for jewelry and if it can be plated. If so, what metal plating will work?

Thanks,
Roberto
