Protecting a cedar log headstone from corrosion
February 27, 2012
Q. I am making a headstone for my mother's grave out of a cedar log that has been cut in half and inscribed. I am looking for something to protect it from the outdoor elements and keep it lookig good, any suggestions?

Several coats of exterior polyurethane. Cedar ages to a nice gray patina. The polyurethane will give it a slight yellow tone. You might want to try it on a scrap off of the log.
