Sealing toilet tank with plastic dip or spray

October 20, 2011

Has anybody suggestions or had experience with coating the inside bottom of a ceramic water holding tank for a toilet? I cannot buy a new 7 gallon tank as they are no longer allowed in the US. Rather than spend $200.00 to $400.00 to buy a new toilet I would like to spray over hairline or smaller crack in bottom of tank. Water appears to seep out rather than drip so I assume crack(s) are minor.

Thank you

Waterproofing paint

on Amazon

Hi, Robert.

Basement "waterproofing paints" are made for this purpose, as are roof tar sealers. It should not be hard to find an approach that works. Good luck.

Shhh! The world sees these pages! Please don't let them know that in the "land of the free" it's against the law to even buy a toilet if not sanctioned by the nanny state. We older Americans don't really care about toilets, or incandescent light bulbs, or fleet average MPG, or seat belts -- but we have enough experience to recognize slippery slopes, and to know that we're not going to lose our freedom in a fell swoop, but through the process of a thousand 'justifiable' baby steps.
