Analysis of Iron Content on a Zinc-Iron plated part

I'm a lab technician and I need to check the coating composition of parts being plated with Zinc-Iron alloy, per a Ford spec we need to determine the Iron content on the part after plating (0.3-0.8%) with a X-Ray Fluorescence spectrometer.
But we are getting the reading of the Iron on the part together with the Iron deposited in the alloy.
We can't apply an underplate like copper or nickel underneath.

How can we determine the Iron content of the deposit in a ferrous part with X-Ray?

Thank you for your help.
