Is P20+Ni (plastic mould tool steel) harder than P20+S?
September 27, 2011
My question is regarding to hardness of the PMS i.e. Is P20+Ni (Plastic moulded tool steel) harder than P20+S (Plastic moulded tool steel)?
Please also explain the technical reasons if possible.

Hi, Aftab.
This is outside of my area of expertise, but a vendor datasheet says the +Ni has 1% nickel, and is ideal for mirror polishing whereas the +S is not recommended when mirror polishing is required. The data sheet, however, says that the +S is supplied prehardened to 37-43 HRC whereas the +Ni is supplied prehardened to 28-32, or hardened to 33-38 HRC.
