Plating Power Supplies: what am I looking for?
September 26, 2011
I am pricing out replacement power supplies for an older plating line. One quote, from a well known power supply company, is $4000. A second quote, from a no name supplier, is only $800. As far as I can tell, the units are identical... 12V, 25 amp switchmode supplies. The cheaper one actually has a lower ripple number.
What am I missing? Is there a technical need that I'm overlooking? What other specification information should I be concerned with?
The suppliers are being used to plate pyrophosphate copper on zincated aluminum, if that matters at all.
Thanks for the help.
