Stripping of Zi/Ni alloy plating and replating of the same - Regards

September 14, 2011

Dear Sir,

We are a leading auto parts manufacturer in India.
We have a Zi/Ni alloy plating plant, and we are plating the components with 5-15 microns thickness. If a component is rejected for a plating issue reason, we have to strip the plating surface with 50% HCl, and again we plate the same component, but we are not getting the thickness of 5-15 micron thickness.

Here, I want to know which is good method to strip/remove the Zi/Ni plating, and how to re-activate the surface to get the thickness and finishing.

Expecting a kind reply.

Thanking you sir.

Dear Divahar,
If you strip the plating fully and reprocess the deplated parts right from the first step, you will not have the problem of activation.
On getting the thickness, check your carbonate content in the Zinc Nickel bath.
All the best.

Pls try 60-70% HCl.
You will see it will be ok.
