What is "hot dog" tin plate

What is "hot dog" tin plate?

Hi, Mark.

Please take the time to offer some context. Are you reading this on a drawing, or reading about it in a book, or you just overheard fellow passengers on an airplane? I've never heard of it, and without context my first guess would be that it was a mis-heard corruption of "hot dip" tin plate.

Regards,
