Direct nickel coating on aluminium preforms
preform details-
1. Aluminium 6061 powder ( 85% ).
2. Carbon fibres ( 15% ).
Both are mixed and then compaction process is carried out. Final preform dimensions- 30mm dia, 24mm long.
Treating this as samples for electrolysis process, can we directly coat nickel on these samples or are there any cleaning processes needed? Guide us out.

Hi, Shreeshail.
I don't think the carbon will be a serious problem, but I doubt that you will be able to electroplate nickel onto aluminum. You might possibly be able to do electroless nickel directly on aluminum, but I think you will most likely have to go the standard route of zincating, followed by alkaline electroless nickel or alkaline copper plating, before the nickel plating.
