Extending an existing powder coating plant to also do anodising

we are already having the powder coating with around 8 Stainless steel tank (7 mtr.) with crane lifting facility for pre treatment but we are using only 3 for aluminium powder coating treatment... I just want to enquire that what we have to do to start the anodising plant in the same plant.... as the market is more demanding for anodising. Please advice me how to extend this facility with this plant. waiting for your support....

Hi, Sumesh.

For anodizing you would need a minimum of an anodizing tank, a dye tank, and a seal tank in addition to your pretreatment of cleaning, etching, and desmutting -- plus rinses between. Stainless steel cannot be used for the anodizing tank, so it would require a plastic liner. Obviously, you can't get complete design details on line, but you'll need a rectifier, cathodes, & chilling system for the anodizing tank, heating systems for the dye and seal tank, proper racks, probably a DI water system and more.

You can get an understanding of anodizing from Probert's "Aluminum How-To" and/or Wernick, Pinner, & Sheasby's "The Surface Treatment and Finishing of Aluminum and its Alloys". Good luck.
